Hotel Jalta Attractions
Hotel Jalta Attractions, from its very beginning, was one of the most luxurious hotels in Prague. The Hotel was not only intended for wealthy tourists from the West at that time. Important communist officials from abroad were also accommodated here during their visits to Prague. In the mid 1970s, after establishing diplomatic relations with the Federal Republic of Germany, before a suitable building in Prague was found, its embassy was for some time housed in this hotel. Right from the very beginning the hotel was a focal point for the state security service and everything, including the sculptures in the façade, is said to have been wiretapped. But the communist regime had yet more plans for the hotel.
In case of war the hotel was to serve as the commanding headquarters of the Warsaw Pact. Descend into our nuclear fallout shelter, where there was originally a hospital with a secret entrance for the then General Staff. We have partly confirmed rumours about a secret entrance to the shelter, directly to the area of the planned hospital, but we still don't know where exactly it is.
Every guest of Hotel Jalta has the opportunity to explore these previously secret places on the second basement of the hotel. A guided tour is included in the price of accommodation. Tours of the fallout shelter are organized twice a day for hotel guests. The tour has to be booked in advance.
Today the Flow East company hotel, that among other celebrities, has also hosted the Dalai Lama and American stars Bruce Willis, Bruce Springsteen and Mia Farrow, offers its guests four-star luxury in 94 rooms. It also extends the tradition of cultural events, offers a venue not only for business meetings, press conferences and receptions, but also for fashion shows, auctions, celebrations and cocktail parties. The owners decided to completely stay with the architectonic style of the socialist era, but they have also blended in modern comfort.
The hotel´s architect Antonín Tenzer designed the hotel up to the last detail without using any standardized elements. It is interesting that this took place in the time of deep socialism, when the approval of all projects, in every detail, was fully under the control of the communist authorities.
